| Annual Meeting of the Union i THE YEAR'S ACTIVITIES i j The annual meeting of the j Stratford Sub-provincial Farmers' Union was held in the Parish Hail this afternoon, Mr. M. G. Trotter presiding over a good attendance | of members. A welcome was extended to the prei si dent of the North Taranaki execuj tive, Mr. H. E. Biydc, and the secre- ! tary, Mr. D. Le C. Morgan, who atI tended in order to address the meet- | ing oil the activities of the union. ! The annual report of the president I (already published) was read and the I secretary, Mr. Hunt, reported that the i past year had been a strenuous one I and difficult for farmers owing to the I low price of produce and high ovcrj head costs. Many farmers had been ; given relief through his (Mr. Hunt's) j representations to the a-scssmenti j court. Many useful remits had been ! brought forward during the year and i forwarded to the correct channels. j The executive's representatives on the j unemployment committee had kept o I close watch over farmers' interests. j During the year the organiser had : visited the district and opened o j branch at Tariki, and had revived inj terest in other branches. It wa? sugj gested that before the district is rei organised that a committee of both | executives be set up to formulate a ■ special campaign to revive interest in j all branches and obtain new members. j The remit passed by the Taranaki ! executive urging a reduction in | the subsidy to two shillings for each ■ member called for careful considera- | tion. The delegates had attended reguj larly the North Taranaki executive I meetings and wished to place on re-

I dent, Mr. 11. K Blyde, and secretary, ! Mr. D. De C. Morgan. During the year i public meetings were called tor the ' purpose of discussing the question oil | exchange and the quality ol dairy pro- ' duce and regulations relating thereto. ! A special meeting of county council | representatives to endeavour to secure I relief for Crown lands failed to obtain its full objective. The year commenced with a credit of £53 18s, and terminated with a credit of £3l. Some subscriptions were still overdue. During the year expenses had increased above the average owing to the I number 0l ! public meetings held. Officers wore elected as follow:—■ i President, Mr. T. T. Murray; vicei presidents, Messrs. M. Davis, and 11 1 Marchant; secretary, Mr. Harry A. j Hunt- delegates to North Taranaki 1 executive. Appreciation of the services renj dercd by Mr. Trotter, president for ! the past four years, was recorded. j The honorarium of £lO 10s and £5 j 5s for tho secretary and chairman roi spectively were renewed.
