LINDBERGH BABY
ECHO OF KIDNAPPING ATTEMPTED FRAUD CHARGE Accused Tells of Plot EVIDENCE IN OWN DEFENCE Press Association. —Copyright. Received Today, 10.55 a.m. Washington, May 11. Gaston B. Means, testifying in his own defence at his trial on a charge of attempting to defraud Mrs. Evelyn Walsh McLean of 35,CC0 dollars for use as a ransom in the Lindbergh abduction case, said in the District of Columbia Court today that he knew who kidnapped the Lindbergh baby, how the child was killed and who got the 50,000 dollars which Dr. John F. Condon paid for ransom.
He said he believed a man named Irving Penton and possibly another named Wellington Henderson had an important part in the abduction of the child. Means said Hendorson was head of the Third Internationale in the United States and presided over the Communistic' headquarters in Detroit. He further said Hendorson told him the baby had been taken to the Georgetown home of Colonel Itobt. Guggenheim, a friend of Lindbergh, and that. Guggenheim had refused to accept the baby. This occurred, Henderson was said to have stated, after the child had been taken to Mrs. McLean's Maryland home, only to find that she was not there. Means testified to a long series of events which, he said, put him in touch with Henderson and Fcnton. He had then arrested Mrs. O'Regan in attempting to ransom the child.
