Scout Camp in Stratford WEEK OF CAMP LIFE Bright sunshine this afternoon favoured the establishment of a scout camp in Stratford. At the King Edward Park camping grounds the hammering of tent pegs was a familiar sound and at two o'clock about 50 boys were in camp and 12 tents were pitched. Scouts aro present from W'averley, Hawera, Eltham, Stratford, Toko and Ohura and others from Patea and Manaia are expected.
The camp was scheduled to commence yesterday, but owing to the inclement weather the commencement was temporarily postponed. The benefit of this action was received today when the weather having cleared the camp was pitched under generally auspicious conditions. It will extend for a period of a week and during that' time the boys will receive a full course of instruction under the able direction of «nch exnerienced officers as Commissioner F. W. Horner (Hawera), camp commandant, Major Sandford (Dominion Commissioner for Scout Training, New Plymouth) and Assist-ant-Commissi<».er M. Urquhart (Toko). To the I'li-i this afternoon the commandant. Commissioner Homer, said that the kindness of the Borough Council in placing the grounds at the disposal of the camp was greatly appreciated. The site was admirably suitable for a camp. Appreciation of the donations of food was also expressed by the commissioner, who remarked that splendid arrangements had been made by the local committee. Tonight a camp fire will be held and then the camp will be in, full swing.
