FREIGHT AGREEMENT

Mr. D. Jones Negotiating BELOW REGULAR LINES Press Association —Copyright London, May 3.—Till the Now Zealand shippers’ representative, Mr. D. Jones, arrives to neg'citiate a new freight agreement little more is likely to be heard of the Blue Star Line’s proposal to charter ships formerly used iu the Argentine meat trade and transfer them to the New Zealand run. The Blue Star Line declines to discuss its plans. The Daily Express city editor recalls that Vestey’s, which controls the line, put one or two ships on the China run to compete with the Peninsular and Oriental Line but the market understands the voyages were less profitable than was hoped. There was a similar experience in the venture in the Gulf fruit trade. “The rates offered to New Zealand are below those of the regular lines with which Mr. Jones is coming to negotiate,” the Daily Express adds.
