COMPLAINT FROM TARANAKI
SALES OF BUTTER
Press Association. —Copyright
Dunedin, April 24. Rollerring to 1 lie complaint from Taranaki that certain firms handling New Zealand butter were offering large quantities on the London market below the current values, a local member of the Dairy Board stated that since there was no compulsory marketing the board had no say. Certainly forward selling of big holdings would force prices down. However, consignors gave the agents definite handling instructions, and it appeared that the board could not interfere.
A representative of a large selling agency stated that most of the sensational statements on forward sales were made on behalf of “controllists,” but he hoped that Now Zealand had sufficient disastrous experience of a controlled market. Selling agents sold forward when there was an anticipated market drop.
