WORK OF ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY The executive of the Stratford Acclimatisation Society met last night. Mr A. E. Hunter presided. Notice was received from the Department of Internal Affairs advising that Mr. J. C. Moore, of Kohuratahi, who had been recommended as a ranger, had been issued a warrant to that eflec:. The chairman stated that he and the secretary had visited the local tanneries with a view to locating any possible cause which might pollute the Kahouri stream, but after extensive investigation of the locality the conclusion reached was that there was no injurious drainage into the stream and no pollution. Mr. Worthington reported that Mr. Pridham and he had visited the Society’s hatcheries and that the fish seemed to be doing well. The chairman said he had made a short visit to the coops where the pheasants were sitting, and there w r ere a number of hatchings. He estimated that about 100 birds would be bred, but there was considerable trouble as the cocks were eating the eggs. Following a short discussion of possible pollution of the Patea River from the proposed benzine bulk store it w r as resolved that the chairman and the secretary act as a deputation to wait on the Stratford Borough Council to see that the society’s interests are protected in case of such leakages.
