Mrs. G. R. Ritchie, oE Cleyedpi'i returned h'nie this morning after a holiday spent in Stratford. Air. and Mrs. Thompson, of the Argentine, who are on a holiday tour of Now Zealand, the express this morning after spending a short visit, to Stratford. Captain Charles Elders, aged T>2, master of the Unite n Company’s steamer] Waipiata, was found dead in his cabin yesterday morning, at Auckland. Ho had apparently died of heart failure about midnight after returning from a friend s house.
The loss sustained hy the death of Mr. George Woods was referred to at the annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association in the Foresters’ Hall, Stratford, last night The president, Mr. T. Renton, said that the late Mr. Woods had been one of the most active members of the association, having been a mem her of the Dominion executive and also an active member of the Tara, nuki executive. To Mrs. Woods, the association extended .thejM’ doe pep t sympathy and much regretted hit ! death. Members paid tribute to the i memory of their late fellrw membei |by standing in silence in passing the j motion of condolence to his widow.
Mr. J. T. Turvey, who has been on the staff of the butter factory at Stratford for the past eleven years was the recipient of a fountain pen and pencil set from his fellow-employ-ees on Tuesday evening. In making the presentation at the factory, Mr. W. Taylor, general manager of the company, referred to Mr. Turvey’s good and conscientious work during the period of his engagement. He had always been popular with the staff, and their best wishes went with him to his home in the North in his retirement. Several other members of the staff and Mr. W. Fastier, secretary, also added their testimony of appreciation of the guest of the evening. Mr Turvey suitably replied, expressing his appreciation of the gift and the kind remarks of the speakers. He said he would long cherish his associations with the Stratford Dairy Factory-
