The investigation will be directed toward the grading of all pigs, and especially those for export, feeding problems, breeding for export and other allied questions. The first conference was held at Wellington last week. The conference arose out of a meeting at Palmerston North last April, when a deputation representing the Pig Breeders’ Association, the Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, the Waikato Pig Recording Club and the New Zealand bacon carers waited on the Director-General of Agriculture. It was then that a committee representative of all the interests concerned be set up, charged with the responsibility of mak ing a full investigation of the industry with a view to making essential’re-1 commendations. The committee was j to act in an advisory capacity in conjunction with the Department of Agri- ■ culture. ‘ In accordance with the request a' committee ■ representative of the vari ous organisations connected with the pig industry, including Massey Agricultural College and Lincoln College was set up. This committee met at Wellington-last week and questions affecting the industry were fully discussed. Sub-committees were formed to go-into particular aspects and report to a subsequent meeting which, it is understood, will be held at Welling-j ton toward the end of next month.
