BRITISH INTERESTS IN GRAVE DANGER
EXPLOITATION OF SENTIMENT THREATENED
Cjßecd. to-day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Thurs. Sir Edmund
Testy, in a lengthy message in the House of Common--., purports to show that British interests are in grave danger of being jeopardised at Ottawa by endeavours of the Dominion and home producers to secura control of Britain's supplies of imported meat, by quo!as or prohibitive tariffs.
Sir Edmund, though a supporter of Empire preference, anticipates the hotels at Ottawa will be thronged with opportunist advocates of the Dominions' producers, at the expense cf the British people. He asks how many delegates will be imbued with the determination to prevent the exploitation of British sentiment to safeguard export trade. How" many on the other hand will connive at, if not. actively support, a ramp to reduce supplies and increase the cost in Britain of meat, butter and fruit, to benefit those whom they represent?
