THE DEATH PENALTY
—IfW. W, Ai VEITCH'S' VIEWS
>r:* _■;:.--,■ • WANGANOT, To-day. 3ft his meeting at Keith Street last nlghV-Mr. W. A. Veitch was asked whether he was in favour of having the death penalty in murder cases remitted to imprisonment for life. i His reply was very definite. He thought of the next poor chap who was going to be murdered, and would support an amendment to the law that would make it more strict. There were far too many murders occurring in this country, and death was the only way to put fear into the hearts of those who were inclined to take life.
• c <He addedj- however, that thosg who
had been sentenced to death and then had their lives remitted to them, had been treated justly. There had been special circumstances.
