Dr. E. G. Sayers, a medical missionary from the Solomon Islands, is at present in Stratford. He will deliver a lecture while here.

Mr. P. Skoglund, who is president of the Taranaki Brass and Pipe Bands Union, was a passenger by the mail train this morning for Hawera to attend the band contest.

The death o£ Mr. F. Z. Moore, barrister, aged 58, head of the legal firm of Messrs. Moore,' Moore and Nichol, is announced from Dunedin. The late Mr. Moore was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School from 1882 to 1889. He was in the office of Downie Stewart and Co. for six years, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1895, and a barrister in 1900.

Mr. A. D. McGavock has been appointed Director of Forestry, in succession to Mr. E. Phillips-Turner, who will relinquish the position as from the end of the present month. Mr. McGavstock is at present AssistantMcGavock is at present Assistantassociated with the Forestry Department since 1921, when he was promoted to the position of Conservator of Forests for the Westland' region.
