A NEW BARONY
APPOINTMENTS APPROVED BRITISH LABOURITE HONOURED RUGBY, March 11. The King has approved the following appointments: Lord Ponsonhy to be Chancellor o( the Duchy of Lancaster in succession to Major At tie, recently appointed i’osl master-G.eneral. Mr Henry Snell' to be Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for India, vice the late Earl Russell. Mr John Allen Parkinson to bo Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, vice-Lord Ponsonby. The King has been pleased to confer the dignity of a Barony of the United Kingdom upon Mr 11. Snell. The new Baron, who is a bachelor, has had an interesting career. He was born in humble circumstances, his par-mils being agricultural labourers. After, attending a village school he began life as a farm worker. He was aIT rewards groom, ferryman and postman, Hut continued his education at Not i Ingham University College and later the London School of Economics and lleidel berg University, He Ims a mays taken a deep interest in the social question and became a well-known lecturer on labour and religions matter. Since 1922 he has been member of Parliament for East Woolwich.
