LIFE IN ARGENTINA
EX-NEW ZEALANDER'S VISIT. IMPRESSION OF DOMINION. "It is twenty years since I last visited New Zealand and 1 think Auckland has changed more than-any of the other cities,' said Mr G. H. Wallace, of Buenos Aires, who, with M Wallace, is at present in Auckland. Mr Wallace was born in Wellington, but has lived in the Argentine for over 30 years. He arrived in the Dominion in January on a visit to his people in Wellington and he is to leave for San Francisco on his way back to Buenos Aires on March 24. "The Argentine Is feeling the depression like the rest or the world," said Mr Wallace, "but it is a wonderful country to recover; one good season pulls the country up again." The Argentine produced much the same things as New Zealand, and there was no inter-change of products. New Zealand apples were sometimes seen in the shops. "Our soil ia largely river silt and is wonderfully productive," he said. According to Mr Wallace the climate in the Argentine has changed considerably during recent years, and is now very much like that of Auckland. "Professional wrestling is very popular in our country," said Mr Wallace. In Buenos Aires the matches were held in the Casino and attracted tremendous crowds. Boxing was also popular and about the time Mr Wallace left on his five months' holiday trip Luis Firpo, the only man ever to knock the famous Jack Dempsey out of the ring, Avas talking of attempting a "come-back."
