Misses Nellie and Nora Butler, of Toko, have returned homo after a holiday in the Waikato. Foreman J. Pearce sent an apology for absence from last night’s annual meeting of the Fire Brigade. It was stated that this was the first annual meeting that Foreman Pearce had missed for sixteen years. Mr. E. Leech, an old resident of jStratfond, hviio returned .recently from Canala, where he played for the New Zealand bowling team at the Empire G vines, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs G. Smart- Ho will return to his hßme at Ohura shortly. Among those present at the Fire Brigade’s smoke concert last night were Messrs Goodey (representing the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association) and Hassall (chairman of the Wanganui Retailers’ Association), who, after the meeting of retailers, accepted the Mayor’s invitation t 0 attend the smoke concert. APologj.es for absence were forwarded by Or. S. A. Ward and Mr W. Hoskin, who could not attend owing to the illn'ess of Mrs Hoskim A number of other apologie s were also received.
