HOME MARKET iPROBLEM COMPETITION with foreign. WELLINGTON, July 4. The view that foreign fruit should be kept off the English, market while New Zealand fruit was iu the country was expressed at the Fruit-growers' Conference to-day, when u was sug; gesved that representations should be made to the Prime Minister to Bring the matter before the Imperial Conference. The. subject was introduced by Mr J. H, Brunt (Nelson), who suggested that the restriction should obtain in the months of April, A lay, June, and July. The President, Mr T. C. Brush, said there was a growing tendency in favour of protecting the, portions of the Empire, which were I fading with the Old Country. It was probable that such a proposal, instead of any preierraihvnys, hut the present Government ontial tariff, would meet the position.
