TRAVEL IN AMERICA
PAY FOR COMFORT. WRETCHED POLICE FORGES. In the course of his lecture on hi;, tiavels abroad Dr. W. P l . Gordon said that though there was supposed to be only on e class on the American railways, by paying extra on© could use more comfortable) cars. There! was the day coach, which wa s all ono class andj the Pullman, for a, seat in which one had to pay extra, and the Pullman with private compartments in it. These Pullmans are not the property of the railway companies but belong to Pullman companies which are paid a percentage of the ticket Anoney. The hotels are luxuriously equipped and the larger thd hotel, the larger the price range is. Each room is fitted with a bathroom andi it is this feature that influences some- Americans against travelling in New r Zealand where! they have to wait their turn for a bath. Meals may he obtained i' l the hotel or in al cafeteria The cafeterias have a wonderful) range of food at a wonderful range of price.
Tile"police force in America is a most wretched system continued) D l ’. Gdruon, as each town elects its own policemen and graft i s common. It is the same with elections which are nearly all bought, he concluded.
