VIOLENT EXPLOSION ON MOTOR SHIP

DECKING AN!) CABIN BLOWN INTO AIB. FLAMES EXTINGUISHED. MELBOURNE, August 9. There was a violent explosion today on the Swedish motor ship Falsterbo, at Williamstown. The vessel had on board 28,000 cases of kerosene and lubricating oil. A portion of the decking and the engineers' cabin were blown 200 feet in the air. A fire followed and the flames enveloped the bridge. The crew worked feverishly with chemical extinguishers and, assisted by fire brigades, succeed ad in subduing the fire before it pot too firm a hold. Two of tins crew were injured. The origin of the explosion is unknown.
