FOOTBALLERS AT DINNER

THE STRATFORD CLUB. Members of the Stratford Football Club’s team and members of tbe committee were tbe guests at dinner last night of Mrs. Whittle, proprietor's of the Stratford Hotel. After an excellent repast had been done full justice there was a little speech masking. After the local toast had been honoured, Mr. It. Masters, president of the club, who presided over the gathering, reviewed the work of the past year. His remarks are reported elsewhere in this issue. Mr. D. J. Malone, proposed “The Hostess”. He said he felt sure that all present very much appreciated the kind and thoughtful action ot Mrs. Whittle in entertaining them as she Had. Mrs. Whittle, in conversation with the speaker, had expressed a desire to do something for the club and that night’s, dinner was the outcome. He regretted exceedingly that ait that time Mrs. Whit tie was indisposed, and he knew all present would join in with him in wishing her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Whittle's action was an indication of how the public appreciated clean sport. Mr. Arthur Whitte suitably replied on Mrs. Whittle’s behalf. Mr. It. F. Harkness proposed “Tire Chairman”. He said the club wan fortunate in having at man of Mr. Mgers’ standing as president. Mr. Masters had always taken a keen iniTest in the club. He was a busy 'inn, and the affairs of the country .u; largo engaged a good deal of his attention, but be bad always the lime to spare for the affairs of the club. Tbe speech Mr. Masters had made that night indicated his complete command of the club’s affairs. The speaker trusted that Mr. Masters would long remain with the club and that his interest in the club would never wane. In. reply, Mr. Masters said ho was pleased to. ki associated with the club. His connection with the club had been lengthy [and interesting, and he hoped he would ho connected with the club for many years to come. His work had been a pleasure, and one had reason to be proud of being connected with a club of such high standard and one. so well conduct ed.
