BETTER CONTROL NEEDED

OF JUNIOR FOOTBALL.

A HELPFUL SUGGESTION. In the course of his remarks at the Stratford Football Club dinner last night, Mr R. Masters, president of the club, made some helpful suggestions in reference to the control of junior football. He said that what applied to the Central Divisfon apnlied equally to the whole of Taranaki. He thought the standard 'of our junior football was not what it should be. In saying that he was passing no reflection on our junior footballers. The Union to a certain extent, wa s to blame for not giving that attention to the growth of junior football which should be given. There was a question as to how far the Union was to blame. It would be difficult for the Union itself to keep control of junior football. If the Union eoldd not do so, then it was their duty to- bring into being a body which would bring it into closer touch with junior football throughout the province. The question of sub-unions bad been raised. It might be possible to create a body to take charge of junior football, to have administrative powers which would raise the standard of junior Iplay. In the Central Division the junior competition had not been very successful, but it had been as successful as it was in the other two divisions. Clubs had pulled out of the competition, especially ■in the north. Tim time had arrived when the Union should give more attention to junior football. Failing that there would only be one result. Junior football, senior football and rep. football tvould all decline.
