EASTERN COALFIELDS
DEVELOPMENT WORK. Work in connection with the steam tramway of Egmont Colieries, Ltd., from Tnngarakau Flat to the coal-mine, has been steadily pushed forward during the last two months, though proceedings have been somewhat delayed owing to the almost continuous wet weather, However, the whole of the earthwork in connection with the construction of the four miles of tramway has been completed and the rails have been laid for more to the site of the big bridge over the Tangarakau River. At present the company’s locomotive is hauling hardwood and other bridge materials up to the site of the bridge and the construction of the bridge has now actually been commenced. At Tangarakau Flat the Public Works men are engaged in shifting their present service line in order to make room for the ermnon of the company’s binns, buildings and sidings at the Flat,.: The large trestle across the Raekohua stream at the Fiat has now been commenced, and sundry buildings and shops in the way of same are being moved to new sites.
