The Dannevirke men's hockey representatives who won the Norden Cup from Wairarapa in 1927, and successfully defended it in succeeding seasons, played yesterday the first challenge of the season against Taranakif, the game, ending /in a draw, the score being one goal each. Taranaki commneced very strongly and had the better of play in the first quarter of an hour and then the holders' play began to improve.
With 20 minutes gone R. Pennington sent a hot shot int 0 the net tor the challengers, and three minutes be,4or e the spell ended J. Smith scored for Dannevirke. The second' half was stubbornly contested, Dannevirke being almpst continuously on the attack until the concluding stages, when Taranaki organised several dangerous rushes without scoring. The game was a good exhibition on a dead ground.
