TE POPO BIBS FAREWELL TO, MR AM) MRS M. KNOX. (
About 130 settlers of the Te Popo district gathered last night for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs M. M.- Knox, 'who, after a residence of thirty years in the Te Popo district, are leaving to reside at Toko.
The gathering was hpjd in Mr R. Savage’s wool-shed, and was fully lepresentative of the district, while guests were present from outside,, } districts. An enjoyable time was
spent with music and dancing. Before supper Mr W. Forbes addressed the gathering, apologising for the absence of the Rev. J. MacGregor and Mr S. Pitt. He referred to the close association of Mr Knox with all the activities of the district, and especially the schpol, he having, with Mr Oldridge, first interviewed the I|d,ucation Board regarding the provision of a school for the district. Mr Knox had been a prominent member of the school committee since its inception, and its chairman for the
past ten years. Mr Forbes then presented Mrs, Knox with a silver teapot and Mr iKnox with a watch on behalf of set-
tiers. Tributes to the worth of Mr and Mrs Knox were also paid by Messrs j Bishop, N. Corkill and W. Jack-
,s°n. In response, Mr Knox expressed appreciation of the many kindnesses he and Mrs Knox had received during their residence in the district. He had always done what he considered the best for the district, and he would always have a soft spot in his heart for Te Popo. Mr and Mrs Knox wer e accorded enthusiastic musical honours. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Savage for the use of his woolshed. '
