DEMONSTRATION FARM

MEETING OF SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of, the Stratford Demonstration Farm Society was held on May Bth, there being present: Messrs J. M. Smith (chairman), P. Morresey, K. Tarrant, M. T. Phillips, E. Marfell, W. H. Were, W. I. Grierson (farm manager). An apology was received on behalf of Mr J. B. Richards. The chairman reported that altogether three field days had been held during the past year, and on the whole they had been very satisfactory. The last, held on April 10th, was very well attended. Manager's report for the period ending May Bth showed as follows: ■Cows in milk 50, butterfat taken 11271b5, work done during the month lias consisted mainly of fence repairing blackberry and liecjge 'Cutting and general cleaning up. Topdressing: Slag is now to hand and approximately 7 tons have been applied to date. The action of the chairman and Mr Richards in ordering 12 tons of slag was confirmed. The chairman submitted a report for top-dressing experiments and same was approved. Messrs Dyes and Chemicals, Ltd., Dixon Street, Wellington, submitted an offer through the chairman to supply different classes of manures free of chardge provided c'ft was spread as they provided. It was decided to accept this offer adn the matter of having a paddock subdivided was left in the hands of \ the chairman. ' / Mr P. 0. centrate feeding Had been discontinued as from May Sth. The matter of building' an ensilage silo was discussed, and the committee decided to visit the farms of Messrs G. Bell, J. Lock, and A. Hale to investigate. A definite proposal will be submitted to next meeting of the committee. It was decided that five cows be culled from the herd and sold to the freezing works on schedule. Mr A. E. Blyde was elected a member of the Society. Accounts amountiing to £73 10s 3d were passed for payment.
