To sell a laundary washing machine f or a shilling within twelve months of. having bought it for £125 was on© of the misfortunes of Alice Margaret Hemming, a manted woman, of dominion Road, who met her creditors before Mr G. N. morris, official a»* signee, this morning. In her occupation as a laundress, Mrs Hemming said she had been placed in difficulties because the landlady from whom she rented her shop had; ignored requests for repairs to enable tTie premises to Re used in connection witii the business. Consequently she could ‘not copeT with the work, and a washing macTupe, "Inch ■was tlio prinicipal part of her plant, and insured) for £loo* was seized by a bailiff and sacrificed for a shilling. Following the sale of the machine she had to wash by hand, and lost, the best part of he r customers. * A schedule showed that bankrupt hfid debts amounting to £237. Her liabilities to secured creditorr were £684, but, she had securities and bouse properties at £630. The only assets consisted of mine shillings cash m the hank.

In her written statement, submitted by Mr Jacobson on behalf of bankrupt. Mrs Hemming said her husband had been out of employment for the greater part of last year, and she bail had to support the family for almost the whole time.

Mr Townsendl. who represented the petitioning creditor, said he had instructions to oppose the discharge. The’ Official /Assignee, however,, said he could see no grounds for op. posing the discharge, end his suggestion that the affairs he he'd over fnr a month or two, in order that the position mieht clarify itself, nas approved by the creditors.
