The hospital reports a slight improvement in the condition of Mr F. Nolan. Friends will regret to hear that Mr J< S, Bryce is seriously indisposed. Mr J. Nolan of Auckland, is in Stratford on a visit to his brother, whio is at present an inmate of the Stratford Hospital. Mr V. Thomas, lately of the local staff of the N.Z. L. and M.A. Co., left thisi morning for Wellington, where he will reside in future.

Misses Dodunski and Dombroski, who were seriously injured in the? recent railway crossing accident, are reported to be making satisfactory progress.

Master Tom Young left this morning to resume his studies at the Wangajnui Collegiate School, , and Master It, Abraham also left, returning to St.' George's School, Wanganui.

Mr G. C. Cuming, manager of the Stratford branch of Messrs George Syme, and Co., Ltd., leaves early next month to take up an appointment with a timber company in Napier.

There was a large crowd at the Salvation Army Hall last night, when a farewell social was tendered to Mrs Hopkins and the Misses Ruth and Edna Clark, who are leaving for "a -trip to the Old Country. The death is announced of Sir Robert Donald Douglas Mac Lean, only son of the late Sir Donald MacLean, K.C., M. 8., states a Napier message.' Deceased was born in Wellington in 1852 and spent most! of his early years in Napier. Sir Douglas was the Dominion's foremost breeder of Shorthorn, cattle and Welsh ponies and was one of the leading breeders of draught horses, Lincoln, English Leicester, and Merino sheep, with all of which many championships and prizes innumerable have been won by him. He was a member of Parliament for Napier from 1896 to 1900 and was a member of many public bodies.
