TOURNAMENT AT HAW ERA,

The Hawera Tennis Club's annual tournament, postponed from Boxing Day on account of the. weather was commenced yesterday. The. most interesting match, perhaps, was that' between Barkman (Wanganui) and J. McCarthy (Hawera),, who won from Meuli (Wanganui) and Hay-Campbell in the men's Roubles championship. Had Meuli more'assistance from his partner he would have, gone very close to winning the match. Good all-round, fast play marked both sets. The, match between Barkman and Mawhiney'in the men's singles championship'was productive of good ten-' iiis there being many exciting rallies' Barkman was the fitter of the men and won, 6-0, 6-0, although each, game was won only after keen lights and close margins. i Another match of note was in the; ladies'' singles championship, when Miss ' Ree» (Manaia) -met Miss K.
