NOT FUTURE FARMERS
CITY BOYS NEGLECT AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION. AUCKLAND, Dec, 7. “It is surprising in a country where farming is the basic industry, that there is not a greater demand for instruction in agriculture. There is little doubt that there is just a real need for education for the farmer as for the skilled mechanic.” In his annual report, the principal of the Technical College, Mr Park, made this statement to-day. “In my opinion,” he concluded, “it is unfortunate that agriculture as a vocation has few attractions for city lads. The enrolment of boys in our agriculture course 'this year has totalled 33: the total enrolment of boy's has been 517. Yen will, therefore, see that boys intending to follow agriculture, form only about six per cent, of the boy. s who come to the technical college for a course of prevocalional education.
