THE REGENT SHOW

' SECTION OHAIEMEN MEET. REPORTS AND COMMENTS. Chairmen of sections at the recent A. and P. Show held their customary annual meeting last night, to discuss matters in connection with the Show. The president of the A. and P. Association (Mr J. W. Boon) was in the chair. In opening the meet'ing, Mr Boon said he had been complimented en the Show by people from all over the Island, and surprise had been expressed that the x\ssociation should put on such a line Show. The entertainment part of the Show went 1 off very well. The weather was excellent. He believed they had had the best weather since the inception of the Shew, and that this was only the second occasion on which they had had two fine days for the Show. There was a big crowd, but it was hard to say if it was bigger than last year. Perhaps it looked bigger because all the people were about the ground, and none were in their cars, as they would be in the ctse of unfavourable weather. An important consideration was to keep up the name of the Association, and he thought this had been done at the Show. \ BUILDING COMMITTEE. Messrs A. David, D. M. Clarke and N. B. Fletcher were appointed a building committee. THE HORSES. Mr A. David reported that the horse section, the ring events and the Grand Parade had gone off well. The chairman said the entries in the horse section were up and the section was very well conducted. MiDavid was to be commended few the wmrk he had put in, not only i;i his own section but in any other section where work was required.

SHEEP. Mr C. M. Young said iti was the P'siest year 'he had had in the sheep section. It was time that some permanent accommodation was provided for the sheep. Mr N. B. Fletcher said that in a, district like Stratford the entries should he better, more particularly in the fat classes. At the t'ime the. Show was held it was perhaps hard "for farmers to give attention to getting: their sheep ready. If a ptrson went 1 round the farms a week before the Show and gave some help in getting the sheep ready, the entries should increase. Then if a lony was sent round to collect the sheep he felt sure, the owners would be willing to bear a share of the cost. The district was gradually becoming a fat stock one, and he thought the time was not far distant when the the sho w at'Stratford of fat stock would be second to none in the Dominion. Cover was also required for the fleece wool. Mr E. H. Linnell said cover for the wool could be provided if a cattle pen was covered with tarpaulins.

BOXES. Mr V. Johnson said the allotment of accommodation fo>r beasts was carried out smoothly. CATTLE. Mr H. A. Hunt said all the workers in cattle section did their Jobs efficiently. Entries were down. H e would suggest that next 1 , year a small committee should be appointed to secure entries for the cattle section. The members of this committee could go round local farms and get entries. Unless local entries were secured the Show wtould go down. Mr E. H. Linnell expressed the opinion that shavings were not suitable as bed-ding in the cattl e pens. He had been told that straw was very cheap in the Marton district at the time of threshing, and he .thought some should he secured for bedding. H e thought there . were too many classes for yearling pedigree Jersey cattle. Mr C. Jackson commented on the poor entries in the grade classes. JUNIOR COW-JUDGIING. Mr H. C. Johnson said the junior cow-judging went off well. The chairman said Mr Johnson shoul'd be complimented ton his work. 'The section was one of the most interesting at the Show. SPACE. Mr R. King said the allotment of space for side-shows and trade exhibits was carried out without a hitch. The side-shows suffered somewhat' because of the Auckland show following so soon. Some desired to get away to Auckland, but loyally agreed to stay for the night show. GRANDSTAND. Mr E. S. Walker said members

should not be allowed t 0 go on the outside stand. The chairman said a member could not be refused a seat on the outside stand if the grandstand was full. Mr J. Parrish said there was trouble with members' tickets at the outside stand. Mr J. C. Robins thought members should be issued with a -disc, which would admit at the front gate and to the grandstand. WEIGHT GUESSING. Suggestions were made that an awning should be placed over the bullock in the weight'-guessing competition, and also that there be mor e than one person selling tickets. JUNIOR SECTION. , The Rev. Canon Kayll thought the building now used for the junior section should be set 1 apart permanently for the section. It would be a great encouragement to exhibitors if the building was put in order, and it iwould not be an expensive job. A floor should be provided, the tables should be made permanent, and the place should be decorated. He thought they should go further afield for entries and not confine tliem to the local schools. Mr Fletcher said he had heard very complimentary remarks about the woodwork from the Technical High-School, but this work 1 was not displayed properly. More room should be provided for it. HOME INDUSTRIES. Mr W. Pettigrew reported on the home industries section. He said the entries were down, and expressed the opinion that 1 there should be a canvas for entries. PIGS. Mr Parrish said something would need to be done in connection with the provision of bedding.
