On the e.ve of the funeral, with military honours, of Lovell, the exserviceman who was killed in saving a thre.e-year-ol.d child from being run over, during the Armistice celebrations in Limehouse, a brother serviceman sought permission to see the body. Following a scrutiny he said: "I thought so. We. were together in France. He saved my life when T was wounded. During a gas attack Lovell took off his respirator 1 and gave it to me, saying, "You take it., mate. I can run." I had not seen him since."
