INFANT SCHOOL MATTER KEPT IN VIEW

COMMITTEE WATCH POSITION. NO REPLY FROM GOVERNMENT Although no word lias been received as yet concerning the Government's intentions regard- ' ing the remodelling of the Infant Department at the PrimarySchool, Mr W. Hoskin, the chairman of the School Committee, explained at last night's meeting that the matter would not he lost sight of, and every possible endeavour would he made to ensure tha£ the necessary |Work would be carried out.

Mr Hoskin reported On the representations made in th e matter. Particulars of these have heen published in the Post previously. He said that it was necessary the position should not he lost sight of, and it. might he desirable to hold a special meeting of the Committee during the month. It was unlikely, he pointed out, that any advice regarding the action to be taken by the Government could not be received for some little time. Mr Watler, M.P., was making representations to the Minister, and would report on the result as soon as possible. The secretary of the Taranaki Education Board wrote thanking the chairman for copies of the Stratford Evening Post containing matter dealing with the condition of the Stratford infant school, together with the report of Drs. Steven and Gordon on the building. It was pointed out that application for a grant to cover the co !|t of remodelling the infant department of the school had been forwarded to to the Education Department on August 3. There was a brief discussion on the subject, members being unanimous in regard to the necessity for early action being taken. Mr A. E. Moss spoke of the work done by Mr Hoskin in the matter, and made appreciative reference to that gentleman's efforts.
