It wa s moved that the rules as submitted toi bands shoufld be ooni firmed. Mr. Hawkins moved that in additi.on\ to the annual contest the Union run contests for solos etc., periodically. He said that these competitions would have the effect of break-,, ing young players of their nervousness which was a great drawback when bands mode their first appearance. The motion was carried. Therefore; lie thought they should include the 'pip 6 ' bands in the Union . Delegates concurred in this view. ; After a short discussion, the rules confirmed. THE RESIDENTIAL PULE.

Discussing ibhe contest Mr,, Hawkins sail the residential qualification left a iloophole, which his band thought would allow members of non-competing bands to join competing bands for the purpose of a, contest. The chairman said the rales provided that a, man could not be a( member of more than one band at* a time. Mr .Hawkins said there was al ways! slackness. It was provide* that certificates regarding playeis should be produced before the band played but at a recent contest these certificates were not demanded.
