WAVERLEY CAMP NOTES

■ On Friday night it rained very hard, but cleared up towards morning enabling the regiment to carry out its usual parades. On Saturday afternoon the Regimental sports were held, and passed off very cessfully. A large number of visitors were present. The proceedings were enlightened by numerous selections by the Regimental Band under Captain Buckley. The following are the results of events: — Tug of War on Horseback—Sergt. Johnston’s Team 1. Open Jump (Mounted!—Sergt]. Southcombe 1, Capt. B. Harvey 2. Section Mounted Jump.—Sergt. Samson’s Section 1. Mounted Chairs, which caused a lot of excitement, were won, by Corp. Mullally, of the C. Sad. 100 Yards Foot Race.—TjJ?. |B. Walters 1, Tpr. I. Johnstone 2, Sergt, Samson 3. 220 Yards Foot Race.—'Tpr. 1. Walter I,' Tpr. Ironmonger 2, Sergt, Johnstone 3. 440 Yards Open.—Tpr. K. Armstrong 1, Tpr. E. Walter 2, Mr Symes kindly acted as judge for the horse events. During the afternoon a rifle match was fired between teams from the Waverley Rifle Club and men from the Regiment, which resulted in a win for the Regiment by 19 points. On Friday evening a very successful dance was held in the Waverley i Town Hall arranged, by the Legion" of Frontiermen. Although the weather was very bad a. large number of the men attended. The Regimental ball is to take place next Wednesday evening. On Sunday morning the €.O. Lieut.-Col. Foley, kJ.G.,: ; car- , ried out an inspection of the camp, , and later on a Church parade was held at which Rev. Rich officiated. During the afternoon the camp ■was thrown open to visitors, a large number coming from as far north as New ’ Plymouth and south to Wanganui.
