COUNTY RATES

FIXED FOR THE YEAR,

The rates for the year were fixed by the Stratford County Council. Cr. Anderson moved that the West Riding rate be the same as last year (1 5-'3d). The Riding seemed to have overrun the constable last year, but he proposed that a loan of £3OOO bo raised to’ wipe out the debit, to go towards the cost of the Kapuni bridge and towards the cost of portion of some roads. The Riding foreman deserved complimenting on the anjount of work'done during the year.

The rate for the Mangaehu Riding was fixed at the same at last \ year (3d). Cr. Jacobson said the Riding appeared to have gone back during the year, but a lot of metal which was available for this year had been crushed. They were studying economy in the Riding, but he could not see how they could strike more than 3d. The buying of a motor truck had contributed to the debit. In moving that the East Riding rate be 2 3-Bd, as last year, Cr. Were said that a reduction might be made, but by continuing last year’s rate they would make provision for their weak roads.

Tlie rates for the -other Ridings wore fixed at the same figure as last year; North 2d, and South 1 5-Sd.
