A member of the survey party, in. tho,Aliau block, had the; misfortune to moot with an accident la.st week. While working in the hush, tho slasher ho was using caught on a. vine, coming down ard cutting an artery in the left arm. First aid Avas rendered to the sufferer, who was then brought -across eountiy to the residence of Mr and Mrs D. Morrison apd thence to the nurse. Whilst some by-roads residents are annoyed by tho wild pig, the main, road ones arc troubled by the Pukaki, which eat the young grass and destroy the newly sown seeds. These birds are protected and T think it must be on account of their glorious plumage, as it is indeed it is a majestic spectacle to witness 40 or 50 of these birds, on a green paddock; but considering 'the damage done, it a,ppears as though a few could be spared for gamo in the shooting season as it might help to scare them from coming as near as two yards from a resident's door-step. Miss W. Stockwell is spending a holiday with frineds in Stratford. Mr W. Gill and his son Alan, have been spending a few days in New Plymouth. Mr F. Cloland also returned on Tuesday night.
WHAMCAMOMONA NEWS, June 17. —Tho weather has clearedagain, a welcome change from the wet and squally weather we have just experienced, for although the mornings are very cold and frosty, the days which follow aire bright and sunny, and the mud, which is such a nuisance during the wet weather, quickly dries and disappears. It is pleasing to "note that the ladies' guild in connection with the Anglican Church, which was allowed to lapse for some months, has lately been revived. A meeting was held on Wednesday last. A painful accident befei Miss Wright on Tuesday last, when she had the misfortune to trip and fall heavily, breaking, two bones in her arm. She was immediately attended by Nurse Myers, and left by train on Wednesday for medical attention. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs K. Summorhayes, of Marco Road-, had an unenviable experience on Wednesday last,'whilst driving toi Whanga. Through the sudden breaking of the axle of her gig, she was thrown out, and though luckily escaping serious injury, was severely shaken and bruised, and had to pursue the remainder of her journey on foot. Mr and Mrs Gordon Partridge have returned to make their home here. Mr and Mrs Partridge..who have been in the Auckland district for several years, at one time resided in Whangai. Mr and Mrs Phillips, of New Plymouth, are visiting Mrs Anderson,. Miss Wanda, Stockwell, of Marco Road,' is on. a short holiday. Miss Ennisis visiting her brother, Mr E. Ennis. Mr C. Wilton "has returned to Para>•paraumu, -after spendlimg a. few days with his brother Mr A. Wilton. Mr R. Smiith is on a visit to relatives in the Wairarapa district. Mr N. S. Dunn, of Mangere Road, is spending a, holidav in Canterbury. 1 Mirs Brownine has been confined to bed for .some time, 'and her friends will be sorry to hear that isbo is still far from. well.
