POSSIBLE TO SAVE

FRANCE'S FINANCE. RIGHTING THE SHIP OB 1 STATE. PREMIER'S STRONG PLEA. (Reuter). (Received 8.55 a.m.) Paris, June 15. M. Caillaux, at a banquet at Beauvis, referring to France's financial difficulties, said he was assured it was still possible—but only just possible—to right the Ship of State. Never was .there so much need for twin spirits' sacrifice and discipline. It was a thankless task, he said, to tell the truth to a country from which the truth had been withheld for ten years in order not to affend its susceptibilities. We must have courage and insist on the State reducing its expenditure. The hour would come, when the nation must reduce the standard of living in order to keep within her resources. He concluded: "I am sorry I am obliged to ask for such efforts —not only from the very rich but from all the taxpayers according to their means.".
