HANNAN BEATS ARNST.
IN EASY FASHION. HAMILTON, Oct. 26. The Australasian sculling championship race resulted in an easy win for J. Hannan (holder) over Richard Arnst (challenger). The course on the Waikato River was over three and a quarter miles against a four knot current. The race was very unexciting. Hannan got the lead at the start and maintained it throughout. Arnst broke a portion of his right scull as a result of hitting a piece of timber iu the earlier stages of the race, but admits that it (undo no difference to the result. Hannan won by well over ttvouty lengths. The time was 26min. 40sec., which is good for the course against such a current. ' ACCIDENT TO lIA OFT ELD. AUCKLAND, Oct. 26. Darcy Hadfiold, holder of the world’s sculling championship title, was admitted to hospital to-day suffering from injuries to the head and body, the extent of which is not yet known. He was motor-cycling at Morningside, and in endeavouring to pass two motorcars his machine was touched by one, causing him to fall. HADFIELD’S ARM BROKEN. AUCKLAND, Oct. 27. Darcy Hadfield sustained a fracture of the right forearm by his collision with a motor-car while cycling.
