APPLES IN COOL STORAGE.

SUCCESS OF EXPERIMENTS

Per Press Association

NELSON, Oct. 26

Last year it was feared that the apple flesh collapse in the cool store would prove a serious menace to the fruit industry throughout New Zealand. For some months past Mr. R. Waters, officer in charge of the biological laboratory, Wellington, has been conducting cool store experiments in this district. At a meeting of the Motueka Cool Storage Company Mr. Waters explained probably half the success of the present season’s cool storage fruit at Motueka was due to earlier picking. Past experience, however, showed that even when fruit was picked at the right stage certain conditions must he provided in the cool store to avoid flesh collapse. Mr. W. A. J. Briggs (chairman of directors) said the results in the cool stores this season had surpassed his expectations. On the motion of Mr. H. Everett it was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent to the Minister of Agriculture for the services rendered by Mr. Waters, and that Mr. Waters he personally thanked for his services during the past season.
