THE ENGLISH PRESS

RESTRICTIONS ON REPORTS.

(Received 10.30 a.m.) (Argus.) London, May 8

The Newspapers’ Society passed a resolution that the opening Bill before Parliament relating to reporting divorce and other cases is unjustifiable. ill-considered, and an unwise interference with the established liberties of the press; that if the Bill is passed, and there are trials concerning the white slave traffic, dope evil, and others in which sex questions arise, these will not be reported. The Bill will thus play into the hands of the guilty parties, whose chief desire was to keep thenmisdoings out of the press.
