Alexandris, Foreign Minister, interviewed, insisted upon the competence of the League of Nations, which was morally, responsible for the protection of the territory of its members. He said: "We are convinced that Italy, after the first flush of emotion, will recognise in her calmer moments that Greece acted in good faith, and in a spirit of conciliation, and with a desire to give complete satisfaction. When this is realised, Italy will end the occupation of the Greek Islands, which cannot be justified by argument or right." After tlie burial of the victims of the bombardment at Corfu, demonstrators unsuccessfully attempted to take the Italian Legation by storm. MUSSOLINI'S POLICY. DEFIANCE OF THE LEAGUE. (Received 11.40 a.m.) Rome, September 4. Signor Mussolini informed the Italian Cabinet that it was inadmissable for the League to intervene. If it insists, Italy will withdraw from the League. Cabinet approved.
