The Hon. W. C. F. Carncross was yesterday elected Speaker of the Legis lative Council and congratulated by Sir Francis'Bell and the members! '

Private A. J. Firmerty, of Te Wera, who was reported wounded on 11th October, is now reported admitted to hospital, England, suffering from gunshot wound of the left arm and hand.

The death occurred unexpectedly at «n early hour on Wednesday* of Mr Arthur Bunny, solicitor and Crown Prosecutor for the Wairarapa, at the age of seventy-three.

The Rev. T. H. C. Partridge, M.A., has been appointed to the OhuraWhangainomon.'i Mission District, in the place of the Rev. H. W. Smith, who lias removed to Hamilton.

The Rev. T. H. C. Partridge, of Matamata, Wakato, has been appointed to take charge of the Whangainomona and Ohura districts, apd will take up his duties early in November.
