The record price of £27 was obtained at the Wallacetown stock sale last week for a well-grown Shorthorn bullock, sold on account of Mr G. Anderson, of Wright's Bush.

■ Members of the Stratford Returned Soldiers' {Association are to parade at the school at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow' for the purpose of attending the Thanksgiving Service at the Town Hall. As this is the first public function at w'hieh the newly-formed Association has been represented a big muster is expected.

A united service of thanksgiving to celebrate the surrender of Turkey will be held in the Town Hall, Stratford, to-morrow afternoon commencing at 3 o'clock. The band will be in attendance and Returned Soldiers, Fire Brigade, Territorials and Cadets will parade. Addresses will be delivered by the Revs. Dawson O. Madill, C. W. Howard, and R. B. Tinsley.

A Wellington Press Association message states: A,t the Wellington Camp, canteens have been' placed under the administration of the Military authorities. All the profits tvill be paid into the canteen funds 'and are returnable to the men through their respective units. The prices ore on a par with, and some cases lower than, pre-war rates. Civilians are strictly debarred from participating in the benefits of the system, which was designed purely for soldiers. Similar arrangements have been in operation in the Featherston Camp for some time.

The victim—Mr Vance > secretary of the Y.M.CA.) — was lying in his bunk, and Bonner was overhauling an officer's equipment prior to cleaning up his aocountrements and weapons. Amongst the accoutrements was an automatic pistol belonging to an officer . who had returned from service abroad. Bonner held the weapon in his right hand. Mr Vance said: "Let me see it," and Bonner with his left hand' over the muzzle of the pistol was handing it across when an explosion occurred. The bullets pierced the palm of Bonner's hand,- and struck Mr Vance in the right temple. He uttered a few incoherent words, and lay unconscious with a nasty hole in his bead. Bonner's condition was also serious. He had severed an artery, and was in immediate danger of bleeding to death. Another orderly at once seized the injured limb, and exerted his full pressure on the wrist for a few minutes that intervened before a doctor's services were available. Both the injured men were immediately placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. Mr Vance lingered on until about 4 o'clock, when he passed away, Bonner's injuries, although painful are not likely to prove fatal.
