At Tuahiwi, Inst niglit, Mr Urn, the successful candidate in the Southern
Maori election, in thanking the electors for their support, said he would 'outer the House as an Independent I Liberal, and ho Imped this fact would ■ not deter Sir James Carroll from exitending the hand of friendship and ! assistance.
Sir James Carroll predicted a general election in twelve months, and pleaded that Mr Urn should associate himself with the Liberal party. To this course, however, both Mr Urn and bis supporters objected, Mr Urn ■stating that lie had first to learn whether it was from the Reform, Liberal or Labor party that the Southern Maoris could expect the fairest treatment.
