ROBBERY AT TAUMARUNUI. Per >. ress Association. Taumarunui. December 28. A sensational robbery occurred a half-past three on Christmas morn ins. The premises of Frankland am Hart, butchers, opposite the railway station, were entered, and the offic< safe blown open by an explosive About £275 worth of jewellery wai stolen. It was the property of Wil liam Walle.n, jeweller, who had lodg ed it tliere for safe keeping over th< holidays. Fortunately, Frankland am Hart's cash takings, running int< nearly £3OO, were lodged elsewhere. The safe was moved two yards be fore the charge was inserted, sug gesting that more than one was con cerned in the robberv. The sound o the explosion wns heard '- the rail way staff, who thought it a gun shot. Inspector Sheehan, of Hamil ton, and the local police authorise have the matter in band.
