Mr Massey visited the Manchester Corporation, and was tendered a luncheon at the Town Hall. The Lord Mayor proposed the toast of “Success to - New - Zealand,” which was cordially honored. Mr Massey was entertained at Manchester at a luncheon tendered by the Corporation, ( The Lord Mayor proposed Success to New Zealand. Mr Massey, responding, said iii regard to the peace terms made in Germany that it was impossible to forget the barbarous and brutal methods by which Germany had carried on the war. She must understand that we -were not going to be bullied or cajoled into making a premature peace. We must avenge the death of many gallant men. We must make a repetition of -this terrible war impossible, and thereby secure a peace of which all would be proud.

Mr Bonar Law said the German Government bad given an assurance that Captain Blaikio wouldn’t be shot. Germany considered that the Caledonia was an armed cruiser, and JLilaikie only did his duty.
