HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. A good all-round programme will be screened to-night. It includes “Pathc’s New War Gazette,” the first of the series screened in Stratford. Ihe foremost events pictured are: “British War Prizes,” “Captured German Ships in Yarmouth Harbor,” “The French in Alsace-Lorraine Marching on the Germans,” “Britain Secure,” “Our Faithful- Watch Dogs,” “Kitchener’s 100,000—the Men in Camp,” “London’s Largest Playground—Hyde Park,” now being used for military training. The star drama, “A Deal with the Devil,” is a splendid story of a medical student’s remarkable dream, dealing with of overleaping ambition. Other fine pictures are: “The Silver Snuff Box,” a Nihilist story by the Vitagrapb Co. “A Desperate Chase,” sensational detective drama by A.K. Co. “The Adirondack Mountains,” a glorious scenic. Two splendid comedies, “Three of a Kind,” and “Cowboy Clarence.” NEW YEAR’S EVE. Owing to the New Year bookings being relinquished for the Town Hail, Madame Bernard intends* to hold a huge, promenade concert and dance-in aid of the British and Belgian Relief Fund. All the latest dance music will be' supplied by Van 'Heck’h” or*' chestra. The latest songs and recitations will be rendered by the following: Mr Bert Davis, Miss Eileen Bernard, Mr Geo. Barnes, Mr Will Diamond and others. Dancing commences at 11 o’clock sharp, Mr Tom Lawson, J. Jones' and Will Cuff acting as M;C ? s. This will give an excellent chance for the Stratford public to see the old year out and the new one iri. BELGIAN RELIEF FUND, BENEFIT CONCERT BY WANGANUI GARRISON BAND.

The public meeting convened Stratford Racing Club concerning the above matter was held last night at the File Brigade Hall. The President of the Club, Mr A. W. Budge, briefly explained that the services of this celebrated band had been secured for the forthcoming race meeting on condition that a performance in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund be given on Sunday. The band willingly agreed, and in view of the near approach of the day the concert had already been advertised. The Racing Club was paying the whole cost of the band, and the whole of the net proceeds of the concert would be devoted to the Belgian Relief Fund. He thought it desirable that the publicshould set up a committee to control the business, and moved that Mr W. P. Kirkwood take the chair. Those present formed themselves into a committee with power to add to arrange matters. It was decided that the charge for admission to all parts of the grounds, including the grandstand, be Is for adults, children over 12 6d, children under 12 free, and that no collection be made otherwise. The number of players in the band will be about thirty, and owing to accommodation in Stratford nt that time being fully taxed, they will be billeted at Eltham. Arrangements for their conveyance to Stratford on Sunday and the question of advertising was left to the chairman (Mr Kirkwood), and the secretary (Mr J. B. Richards), The programme to be submitted is as follows, and lovers of music can rest assured of a rare treat. The Wanganui Garrison Band is so generally admitted to be the. very best as indicated by the competitions they have won, that further comment is unnecessary:—Contest march, “Orienta,” Germain; hymn, “Nearer my God to Thee,” Anon; intermezzo, “Cavalliera Rustjcana,” Mascagni; overture, “Light Cavalry,” Suppe! comet solo, “i’ll sing thee Songs of Araby,” Clay (soloist, Mr H Northey); recitative (trombone), “Comfort Ye,” Handel, solist, Mr IT. Briggs); chorus, “And the Glory,” Handel; I grand selection, “Polinto,” Donizetti; air vari, “A Welsh Melody,”,Rimmer ; God Save the King.
