LAW ON THE SEIZURE OF CER-
MAN VESSELS.

Perth, December 23.
Mr Justice Burnside, in giving his reserved decision respecting the German steamers Neumeusfer and Thuringen, seized at JRottuest Island, said the owners contended that .the vessels were exempt from confiscation under the Hague Convention, because they were seized when entering the pore of Fremantle. The Judge held that the Rottnest coast was not the Fremantle port, and condemned the ships. He granted leave to appeal to the Privy Council. '

The University is arranging a special course of technological lectures with the object of encouraging interest in economic subjects among the industrial classes, and with the view of capturing tra'de previously held by the enemy. The University authorities have asked the manufacturers to assist by establishing scholarships and in other directions.
