AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.

Of the programme submitted last night every picture screened delighted those present. The star picture, “When Lions Escape,” is a thrilling story, admirably acted, and contains many sensational scenes. “Her Second Shot” is a Mexican border drama by A.K. Co., a story of hatred, revenge and forgiveness. The Australian Gazette contains some interesting events from Australia, including the big military display and procession through Sydney, and the Australian Expeditionary Force in training at the show grounds, Sydney, also some pretty nature studies. “Among the Gorges of Colorado” is a splendid travel scenic through the wonderful mountain and ravine district of the' west. The comedies sustain a hearty laugh right through there being Vitagraphs, “Any Port in a Storm,” and Kalem’s “Fleeing from the Fleas.” This programme is shown for the last time tonight, THE AXEMEN’S CARNIVAL. / in » U j; ■ To-day finds our people fully engrossed with solving the important question, where shall we go on Boxing Day? Hundreds have already answered, and declared unhesitatingly for the Axemen’s Carnival at Eltham on Boxing Day and the following Monday. No finer athletic gathering is held in Australasia, despite the fact that large cities offer big attractions at times. Upwards of £IOO offered as prize-money in a single event is not a common occurrence, and it stamps this carnival as something out of the ordinary. The published handicaps indicate a maintenance of interest in the carnival by the leading axemen and saw-yers of the Dominion, and the cycling events have drawn some of the best New' Zealand talent. The Railway Department runs special trains, at excursion fares.
