A mass of Arabic and Turkish correspondence intercepted at Cairo shows that the Young Turks are filled with dreams of regaining the Crimea, Batourn, Turkestan and Rumeh'a, especially Salonika, driving the British from Egypt and colonising India. Some Ottoman statesman preferred attacking Greece, but Germany insisted on war with Russia in order to harass Britain. .

ON THE TIGRIS',

London, December 10

Official.—-The 110th Mahratfcas, assisted by an armed steamer, on December 5, drove the enemy across the Tigris, opposite Kurnah, inflicting heavy losses. They also captured two guns. Another Force from "Basra, under General Fry, captured Mascria, opposite Kurnah, on Decern be • 7, and cleared the left bank of the Tigris, capturing three guns. The combined British crossed the river on the 18th, and occupied Kurnah on the 10th. One'British officer was killed and three wounded. Forty Indians wave killed and 120 wounded
