KOHURATAHI.

RELIEF FUND SOCIAL AND

DANCE.

A "Cobweb'.' social (originally a s hool concert, bat afV"*i - «iii(l3 el ai ged to a Relief Fund social and dance) was held in the Kohnratahi HalJ last Friday evening, and proved a great success. The entire management was in the capable hands of Miss Wilson, and the result spoke volumes for lier good management and energy. The following is the musical programme : Mrs McCutcheon, "Where the .Sparrows Build"; Misses Wilson aid Rickelben, ■ piano duet; Miss Gladys O'Connell, '"Mama's Boy" (very appropriate); Mrs Milburn, "My Heart has Learned to Love You" ; School Children, "Tipperary" and "Flower Song" ; Mr E. Hill, "Where the River Shannon Flows"; Mr Kennedy, "Davy Jones' Locker"; Mr and Mrs Bus:. also v sang a duet 'Excelsior" and "Thora" solo.

Just after the supper interval the star attraction of tlie evening, vi/ , the cobweb, was started, and it is interesting to note that in the coin-so of a conversation, Miss Wilson stated that no less than seven miles of string was utilised in the construction of this gigantic cobweb, and it may be realised that Miss Wilson and her assistants undertook a big task in winding this length of string, and yet, although it took something like 10 hours' hard work to make it, some of the local "hoodlums' did not require that many minutes to break it, some of them not even taking the trouble to follow their string round but made a grab for the nearest prize irrespective of whoso string led to it. These sort of larrikins should be barred from entering a Hall with respectable people. One old lady religiously followed her string round and'round, only ,to find that some "gentleman" had played a German trick on her and captured her prize. During the next interval, Mr Lees, the efficient M.C., announced that Mr Johnson would sell by "Dutch" auction a large bouquet of flowers. Ho com-

B. Howard, who supplied a quantity of eatables is understood to have stated that no account would be rendered, thus again assisting to enlarge the profits towards the fund. The dance music was supplied by Miss Wilson, Miss A. Rickelhen, and Messrs J. Ross and J. Dickenson. The Fund will benefit to the "extent of about £'l6 as a result of this concert.
