LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The postal authorities advise that the Pacific route is now working, and that ordinary, deferred, and week-end cable messages are now accepted. I The examination for public service entrance is being carried out daily in the Stratford technical school. A “Post” representative by chance saw the questions set in English and was much struck with the different knowledge required for this examination now to that necessary some years ago. This year’s paper had no mention of nouns and verbs, comparatives ana superlatives or even split infinitives. It had nothing of that sort. The questions were all of a commonscnso typo, and a newspaper reporter might have a chance of a pass. The “Post” man saw one question in which ho thought he could score: Explain clearly the difference between the words “spirituous and spiritual” and give examples.
